What is microdc2
microdc2 is:
microdc2 is a command-line based Direct Connect client that uses the GNU Readline library for user interaction. It was developed from ground up and does not depend on any other program. Despite the command-line user interface, it was designed to be user friendly and simple to use. It can work on headless host (under

, for instance) ant thus, doesn’t require you to run an expensive X11 session, as other clients do.
microdc2 is currently in beta state - there may be many bugs not yet discovered. It also lacks some features that other clients support, such as file hashing, multiple hub connections, and hub list support.

There are three methods to install microdc2
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install microdc2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install microdc2
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install microdc2
Install microdc2 Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install microdc2
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install microdc2
Install microdc2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install microdc2
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install microdc2
How To Uninstall microdc2 on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the microdc2
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove microdc2
Uninstall microdc2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall microdc2
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove microdc2
Remove microdc2 Configurations and Data
To remove microdc2
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge microdc2
Remove microdc2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove microdc2
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge microdc2
