How To Install metview on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install metview on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is metview
metview is:
Metview has been designed as a flexible, modular and extendible system able to accommodate the evolving needs of the user. The system is based on the ECMWF standards for graphics (Magics) and data access (MARS) but can also access locally stored data. The user interface is based on Motif and Qt. Metview is a fully distributed system where modules can run on different workstations and servers.
Metview is a cooperative project between ECMWF and INPE/CPTEC, Brazil. ECMWF has also been assisted by a staff member of Météo-France.
There are three methods to install metview on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install metview Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install metview using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install metview
Install metview Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install metview using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install metview
Install metview Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install metview using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install metview
How To Uninstall metview on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the metview package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove metview
Uninstall metview And Its Dependencies
To uninstall metview and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove metview
Remove metview Configurations and Data
To remove metview configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge metview
Remove metview configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove metview configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge metview
