In this tutorial we learn how to install meryl on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is meryl

meryl is:

meryl computes the kmer content of genomic sequences. Kmer content is represented as a list of kmers and the number of times each occurs in the input sequences. The kmer can be restricted to only the forward kmer, only the reverse kmer, or the canonical kmer (lexicographically smaller of the forward and reverse kmer at each location). Meryl can report the histogram of counts, the list of kmers and their counts, or can perform mathematical and set operations on the processed data files.

This package is part of the Kmer suite.

There are three methods to install meryl on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install meryl Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install meryl using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install meryl

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install meryl using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install meryl

Install meryl Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
