How To Install manpages on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install manpages on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is manpages
manpages is:
This package contains GNU/Linux manual pages for these sections: 4 = Devices (e.g. hd, sd). 5 = File formats and protocols, syntaxes of several system files (e.g. wtmp, /etc/passwd, nfs). 7 = Conventions and standards, macro packages, etc. (e.g. nroff, ascii).
Sections 1, 6 and 8 are provided by the respective applications. This package only includes the intro man page describing the section.
The man pages describe syntaxes of several system files.
There are three methods to install manpages on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install manpages Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install manpages using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install manpages
Install manpages Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install manpages using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install manpages
Install manpages Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install manpages using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install manpages
How To Uninstall manpages on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the manpages package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove manpages
Uninstall manpages And Its Dependencies
To uninstall manpages and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove manpages
Remove manpages Configurations and Data
To remove manpages configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge manpages
Remove manpages configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove manpages configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge manpages
