What is mailnag

mailnag is:

Mailnag is a daemon program that checks POP3 and IMAP servers for new mail. On mail arrival it performs various actions provided by plugins. Mailnag comes with a set of desktop-independent default plugins for visual/sound notifications, script execution etc. and can be extended with additional plugins easily.

There are three methods to install mailnag on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install mailnag Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install mailnag using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install mailnag

Install mailnag Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install mailnag using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install mailnag

Install mailnag Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall mailnag on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the mailnag package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove mailnag

Remove mailnag Configurations and Data

To remove mailnag configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge mailnag
