How To Install lifelines on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install lifelines on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is lifelines
lifelines is:
LifeLines is a genealogy program that runs on UNIX systems in text mode. It maintains genealogical records (persons, families, sources, events and others) in a database, and generates reports from those records.
There are no practical limits on the number of records that can be stored in a LifeLines database, nor on the amounts or kinds of data that can be kept in the records.
LifeLines does not contain built-in reports. Instead it provides a programming subsystem that you use to program your own reports and charts. Some standard report files are included in the lifelines-reports package.
The programming subsystem also lets you query your databases and process your data in any way. LifeLines uses the terminal independent features of UNIX to provide a screen and menu based user interface.
The program is able to read and write GEDCOM files, the de facto standard for genealogical data exchange.
There are three methods to install lifelines on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install lifelines Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install lifelines using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install lifelines
Install lifelines Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install lifelines using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install lifelines
Install lifelines Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install lifelines using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install lifelines
How To Uninstall lifelines on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the lifelines package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove lifelines
Uninstall lifelines And Its Dependencies
To uninstall lifelines and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove lifelines
Remove lifelines Configurations and Data
To remove lifelines configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge lifelines
Remove lifelines configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove lifelines configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge lifelines
