Introduction

What is kinit

kinit is:

kdeinit is a process launcher somewhat similar to the famous init used for booting UNIX.

It launches processes by forking and then loading a dynamic library which should contain a ‘kdemain(…)’ function.

Using kdeinit to launch KDE applications makes starting a typical KDE applications 2.5 times faster (100ms instead of 250ms on a P-III 500) It reduces memory consumption by approx. 350Kb per application.

There are three methods to install kinit on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install kinit Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install kinit using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove kinit

Remove kinit Configurations and Data

To remove kinit configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge kinit
