How To Install kakasi on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install kakasi
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is kakasi
kakasi is:
KAKASI is the language processing filter to convert Kanji characters to Hiragana, Katakana or Romaji(1) and may be helpful to read Japanese documents.
The name “KAKASI” is the abbreviation of “kanji kana simple inverter” and the inverse of SKK “simple kana kanji converter” which is developed by Masahiko Sato at Tohoku University. The most entries of the kakasi dictionary is derived form the SKK dictionaries. If you have some interests in the naming of “KAKASI”, please consult to Japanese-English dictionary. :-)
(1) “Romaji” is alphabetical description of Japanese pronunciation.
There are three methods to install kakasi
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install kakasi Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install kakasi
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install kakasi
Install kakasi Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install kakasi
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install kakasi
Install kakasi Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install kakasi
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install kakasi
How To Uninstall kakasi on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the kakasi
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kakasi
Uninstall kakasi And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kakasi
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kakasi
Remove kakasi Configurations and Data
To remove kakasi
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge kakasi
Remove kakasi configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove kakasi
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kakasi
