How To Install unity-mail on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install unity-mail
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is unity-mail
unity-mail is:
Unity Mail is an application that integrates your mail into the Unity, MATE, Xfce, LXDE and other environments.
It displays notifications about incoming mail, shows the number of unread messages and displays subjects in the Messaging Menu.
The Launcher item also has a quicklist that provides quick access to your mail folders (configured for GMail by default). It also allows you to quickly compose a new message.
Unity Mail starts automatically, all you have to do is to enter your accounts settings in a configuration dialog.
There are three methods to install unity-mail
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install unity-mail Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install unity-mail
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install unity-mail
Install unity-mail Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install unity-mail
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install unity-mail
Install unity-mail Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install unity-mail
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install unity-mail
How To Uninstall unity-mail on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the unity-mail
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove unity-mail
Uninstall unity-mail And Its Dependencies
To uninstall unity-mail
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove unity-mail
Remove unity-mail Configurations and Data
To remove unity-mail
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge unity-mail
Remove unity-mail configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove unity-mail
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge unity-mail
