How To Install svxlink-server on Ubuntu 20.04

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install svxlink-server on Ubuntu 20.04.

svxlink-server is:

The SvxLink server provides access to a ham radio transceiver via the EchoLink® protocol. It can act as a repeater controller or operate on a simplex channel. Based on a modular design, the server can be configured to provide voice mail and echo (talkback) service. It is normally used together with the ‘remotetrx’ package, which allows the remote control of a radio transceiver.

For a client program implementing the EchoLink® protocol, please have a look at the ‘qtel’ package.

EchoLink® allows licensed amateur radio operators to communicate over the Internet, including remote access to station equipment. EchoLink® is a registered trademark of Synergenics, LLC.

There are three methods to install svxlink-server on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install svxlink-server using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install svxlink-server

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install svxlink-server using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install svxlink-server

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install svxlink-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install svxlink-server

To uninstall only the svxlink-server package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove svxlink-server

To uninstall svxlink-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove svxlink-server

To remove svxlink-server configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge svxlink-server

We can use the following command to remove svxlink-server configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge svxlink-server
