How To Install solr-common on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install solr-common on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is solr-common
solr-common is:
Solr is an open source enterprise search server based on the Lucene Java search library, with XML/HTTP and JSON APIs, hit highlighting, faceted search, caching, replication, and a web administration interface. It runs in a Java servlet container such as Tomcat.
This package provides the common files for Solr. Install solr-tomcat or solr-jetty to use Solr under Tomcat or Jetty.
This package also contains the dataimporthandler contrib while omitting dataimporthandler-extras, clustering, extraction and velocity due to missing dependencies.
libmysql-java is necessary to connect the dataimporthandler to MySQL.
There are three methods to install solr-common on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install solr-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install solr-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install solr-common
Install solr-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install solr-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install solr-common
Install solr-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install solr-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install solr-common
How To Uninstall solr-common on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the solr-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove solr-common
Uninstall solr-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall solr-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove solr-common
Remove solr-common Configurations and Data
To remove solr-common configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge solr-common
Remove solr-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove solr-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge solr-common
