In this tutorial we learn how to install php-dompdf on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is php-dompdf

php-dompdf is:

DOMPDF is a CSS 2.1 compliant HTML to PDF converter. It:

  • handles most CSS 2.1 and a few CSS3 properties, including @import, @media & @page rules
  • supports most presentational HTML 4.0 attributes
  • supports external stylesheets, either local or through HTTP/FTP (via fopen-wrappers)
  • supports complex tables, including row and column spans, separate and collapsed border models, individual cell styling
  • supports images: GIF, PNG (8-, 24- and 32-bit with alpha channel), BMP, and JPEG
  • supports inline PHP

There are three methods to install php-dompdf on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install php-dompdf Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install php-dompdf using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install php-dompdf

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install php-dompdf using apt by running the following command:

Install php-dompdf Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install php-dompdf using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install php-dompdf

How To Uninstall php-dompdf on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the php-dompdf package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove php-dompdf

Uninstall php-dompdf And Its Dependencies

To uninstall php-dompdf and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove php-dompdf

Remove php-dompdf Configurations and Data

To remove php-dompdf configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge php-dompdf
