obs-studio is:

OBS Studio is designed for efficiently recording and streaming live video content. It supports live RTP streaming to various streaming sites.

Other features include:

  • Encoding using H264 (x264) and AAC
  • Unlimited number of scenes and sources
  • File output to MP4 or FLV
  • GPU-based game capture for high performance game streaming
  • Bilinear or lanczos3 resampling

There are three methods to install obs-studio on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install obs-studio Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install obs-studio using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install obs-studio using apt by running the following command:

Install obs-studio Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install obs-studio using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install obs-studio

How To Uninstall obs-studio on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the obs-studio package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove obs-studio

To uninstall obs-studio and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove obs-studio

Remove obs-studio Configurations and Data

To remove obs-studio configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge obs-studio

Remove obs-studio configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove obs-studio configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge obs-studio
