In this tutorial we learn how to install mu-cite on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is mu-cite

mu-cite is:

MU-CITE is a citation tool for emacsen. MU-CITE’s citing filter function is callable from various mail and news readers such as Gnus, MH-E, Wanderlust and Mew.

MU stands for “Message Utilities”. It consists of the following modules:

mu-cite.el — main module of MU-CITE mu-bbdb.el — MU-CITE submodule for BBDB mu-register.el — MU-CITE submodule for registration latex-math-symbol.el — translate mathematical symbols of LaTeX into MULE characters

There are three methods to install mu-cite on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install mu-cite Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install mu-cite using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install mu-cite

Install mu-cite Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install mu-cite using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install mu-cite

Install mu-cite Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install mu-cite using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install mu-cite

How To Uninstall mu-cite on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the mu-cite package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove mu-cite

To uninstall mu-cite and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove mu-cite

Remove mu-cite Configurations and Data

To remove mu-cite configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge mu-cite

Remove mu-cite configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove mu-cite configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
