What is libnss-ldap

libnss-ldap is:

This package provides a Name Service Switch that allows your LDAP server act as a name service. This means providing user account information, group id’s, host information, aliases, netgroups, and basically anything else that you would normally get from /etc flat files or NIS.

If used with glibc 2.1’s nscd (Name Service Cache Daemon) it will help reduce your network traffic and speed up lookups for entries.

There are three methods to install libnss-ldap on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libnss-ldap Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libnss-ldap using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libnss-ldap

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libnss-ldap using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install libnss-ldap using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libnss-ldap

How To Uninstall libnss-ldap on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the libnss-ldap package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libnss-ldap

Uninstall libnss-ldap And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libnss-ldap and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libnss-ldap

Remove libnss-ldap Configurations and Data

To remove libnss-ldap configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libnss-ldap

Remove libnss-ldap configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libnss-ldap configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libnss-ldap
