In this tutorial we learn how to install libgig-dev on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is libgig-dev

libgig-dev is:

libgig is a C++ library for loading, modifying and creating Gigasampler files and DLS (Downloadable Sounds) Level 1/2 files.

Since the Gigasampler / GigaStudio and DLS formats are based ontop of the binary RIFF container format, this library also provides convenient access to RIFF files in general.

This package also contains a Linux/POSIX ported version of libakai, which provides support for reading Akai formatted medias (CDRoms, HDs, Zip disks). Currently Akai S1000, S01, S2000 and S3000 series are supported.

This package contains the header files needed for development with libgig. You will need this only if you intend to compile programs that use this library.

There are three methods to install libgig-dev on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libgig-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libgig-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install libgig-dev using apt by running the following command:

Install libgig-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libgig-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libgig-dev

How To Uninstall libgig-dev on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the libgig-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libgig-dev

Uninstall libgig-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libgig-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgig-dev

Remove libgig-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libgig-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libgig-dev
