What is hplip-gui

The HP Linux Printing and Imaging System provides full support for printing on most HP SFP (single function peripheral) inkjets and many LaserJets, and for scanning, sending faxes and for photo-card access on most HP MFP (multi-function peripheral) printers.

This package contains utilities with graphical user interface (GUI) for HPLIP: HP Toolbox, HP Fax, …

Note that all GUI utilities are based on the Qt GUI environment. There are currently no equivalent utilities based on GTK+.

There are three methods to install hplip-gui on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install hplip-gui Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install hplip-gui using apt-get by running the following command:

Install hplip-gui Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install hplip-gui using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install hplip-gui

Install hplip-gui Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install hplip-gui using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install hplip-gui

How To Uninstall hplip-gui on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the hplip-gui package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove hplip-gui

Uninstall hplip-gui And Its Dependencies

To uninstall hplip-gui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove hplip-gui

Remove hplip-gui Configurations and Data

To remove hplip-gui configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge hplip-gui

Remove hplip-gui configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove hplip-gui configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge hplip-gui
