How To Install faketime on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install faketime on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is faketime
faketime is:
The Fake Time Preload Library (FTPL, a.k.a. libfaketime) intercepts various system calls which programs use to retrieve the current date and time. It can then report faked dates and times (as specified by you, the user) to these programs. This means you can modify the system time a program sees without having to change the time system-wide. FTPL allows you to specify both absolute dates (e.g., 2004-01-01) and relative dates (e.g., 10 days ago).
This package contains a “faketime” binary that makes it easy to use the LD_PRELOAD library.
There are three methods to install faketime on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install faketime Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install faketime using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install faketime
Install faketime Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install faketime using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install faketime
Install faketime Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install faketime using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install faketime
How To Uninstall faketime on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the faketime package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove faketime
Uninstall faketime And Its Dependencies
To uninstall faketime and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove faketime
Remove faketime Configurations and Data
To remove faketime configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge faketime
Remove faketime configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove faketime configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge faketime
