In this tutorial we learn how to install elph on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is elph

elph is:

ELPH (Estimated Locations of Pattern Hits) is a general-purpose Gibbs sampler for finding motifs in a set of DNA or protein sequences. The program takes as input a set containing anywhere from a few dozen to thousands of sequences, and searches through them for the most common motif, assuming that each sequence contains one copy of the motif. ELPH was used to find patterns such as ribosome binding sites (RBSs) and exon splicing enhancers (ESEs).

There are three methods to install elph on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install elph Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install elph using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install elph

Install elph Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install elph using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install elph

Install elph Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install elph using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install elph

How To Uninstall elph on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the elph package we can use the following command:
