What is doodle

doodle is:

It searches your hard drive for files using pattern matching on meta-data. It extracts file-format specific meta-data using libextractor and builds a suffix tree to index the files. The index can then be searched rapidly. It is similar to locate, but can take advantage of information such as ID3 tags. It is possible to do full-text indexing using the appropriate libextractor plugins. It also supports using FAM to keep the database up-to-date.

You can use doodled (separate package) to keep the doodle database automagically updated.

There are three methods to install doodle on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install doodle Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install doodle using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install doodle

Install doodle Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install doodle using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install doodle

Install doodle Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall doodle on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the doodle package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove doodle

Remove doodle Configurations and Data

To remove doodle configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge doodle

Remove doodle configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
