How To Install cernlib on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install cernlib on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is cernlib

CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This metapackage provides almost all of the programs and libraries contained in CERNLIB. Most people will likely want only a subset of these. A few extra CERNLIB programs, not of interest to many people, may be obtained via the cernlib-extras metapackage.
There are three methods to install cernlib on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cernlib Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cernlib
Install cernlib Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cernlib
Install cernlib Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cernlib
How To Uninstall cernlib on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the cernlib package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cernlib
Uninstall cernlib And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cernlib and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cernlib
Remove cernlib Configurations and Data
To remove cernlib configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cernlib
Remove cernlib configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cernlib configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cernlib
