In this tutorial we learn how to install ecflow-server on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is ecflow-server

ecflow-server is:

ecFlow is a work flow package that enables users to run a large number of programs ( with dependencies on each other and on time) in a controlled environment. It provides reasonable tolerance for hardware and software failures, combined with good restart capabilities.

ecFlow submits tasks(jobs) and receives acknowledgements from tasks when they change status and when they send events, using child commands embedded in the scripts. ecflow stores the relationship between tasks, and is able to submit tasks dependent on triggers.

There are three methods to install ecflow-server on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ecflow-server Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ecflow-server using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ecflow-server

Install ecflow-server Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ecflow-server using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ecflow-server

Install ecflow-server Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ecflow-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ecflow-server

How To Uninstall ecflow-server on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the ecflow-server package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ecflow-server

Uninstall ecflow-server And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ecflow-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ecflow-server

Remove ecflow-server Configurations and Data

To remove ecflow-server configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ecflow-server

Remove ecflow-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ecflow-server configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ecflow-server
