Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install connman-ui on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is connman-ui

connman-ui is:

It targets all WM/DM users but Gnome3 ones*. It works on any Linux WM/DM which provides a freedesktop compliant system tray. (KDE, awesome, …)

It exposes almost all features provided by ConnMan API (small features are missing, see TODO for more information). You can enable/disable a technology (wired, wifi, cellular, bt, …), connect/disconnect a service, configure a service (IPv4, IPv6, DNS, Timeservers, etc…), share your current connection (tethering) and so on. Everything is accessible through the mouse via the trayicon, all with left and right click.

There are three methods to install connman-ui on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install connman-ui Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install connman-ui using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install connman-ui

Install connman-ui Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install connman-ui using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install connman-ui

Install connman-ui Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install connman-ui using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install connman-ui

How To Uninstall connman-ui on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the connman-ui package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove connman-ui

Uninstall connman-ui And Its Dependencies

To uninstall connman-ui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove connman-ui

Remove connman-ui Configurations and Data

To remove connman-ui configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge connman-ui

Remove connman-ui configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove connman-ui configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge connman-ui
