How To Install cl-trivial-utf-8 on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install cl-trivial-utf-8 on Ubuntu 18.04. cl-trivial-utf-8 is small Common Lisp library for doing UTF-8-based in- and output

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install cl-trivial-utf-8 on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is cl-trivial-utf-8

cl-trivial-utf-8 is:

Trivial UTF-8 is a small library for doing UTF-8-based in- and output on a Lisp implementation that already supports Unicode – meaning char-code and code-char deal with Unicode character codes.

The rationale for the existence of this library is that while Unicode-enabled implementations usually do provide some kind of interface to dealing with character encodings, these are typically not terribly flexible or uniform.

The Babel library solves a similar problem while understanding more encodings. Trivial UTF-8 was written before Babel existed, but for new projects you might be better off going with Babel. The one plus that Trivial UTF-8 has is that it doesn’t depend on any other libraries.

There are three methods to install cl-trivial-utf-8 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install cl-trivial-utf-8 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install cl-trivial-utf-8 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install cl-trivial-utf-8

Install cl-trivial-utf-8 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cl-trivial-utf-8 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install cl-trivial-utf-8

Install cl-trivial-utf-8 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install cl-trivial-utf-8 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install cl-trivial-utf-8

How To Uninstall cl-trivial-utf-8 on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the cl-trivial-utf-8 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove cl-trivial-utf-8

Uninstall cl-trivial-utf-8 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall cl-trivial-utf-8 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove cl-trivial-utf-8

Remove cl-trivial-utf-8 Configurations and Data

To remove cl-trivial-utf-8 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge cl-trivial-utf-8

Remove cl-trivial-utf-8 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove cl-trivial-utf-8 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cl-trivial-utf-8
