In this tutorial we learn how to install bittornado-gui on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is bittornado-gui

bittornado-gui is:

The GUI interface to the BitTornado bittorrent client. BitTornado is a bittorrent client built on the original BitTorrent client from BitTorrent Inc. This client features a GUI interface, lots of features, and is one of the original bittorrent clients created.

Features include:

  • upload/download speed limitation
  • prioritised downloading when downloading batches (several files)
  • detailed information about connections to other peers
  • encryption (PE/MSE) support (with the recommended python-crypto)
  • console mode for running from scripts
  • curses mode for running interactively
  • tracker for the distribution of files

This package contains the GUI interface, install only the bittornado package to get a console and curses interface and a bittorrent tracker. See the bittorrent package for a description of what bittorrent is.

There are three methods to install bittornado-gui on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install bittornado-gui Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install bittornado-gui using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install bittornado-gui

Install bittornado-gui Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install bittornado-gui using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install bittornado-gui

Install bittornado-gui Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install bittornado-gui using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install bittornado-gui

How To Uninstall bittornado-gui on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the bittornado-gui package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove bittornado-gui

Uninstall bittornado-gui And Its Dependencies

To uninstall bittornado-gui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove bittornado-gui

Remove bittornado-gui Configurations and Data

To remove bittornado-gui configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge bittornado-gui

Remove bittornado-gui configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove bittornado-gui configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge bittornado-gui
