In this tutorial we learn how to install amap-align on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is amap-align

amap-align is:

AMAP is a command line tool to perform multiple alignment of peptidic sequences. It utilizes posterior decoding, and a sequence-annealing alignment, instead of the traditional progressive alignment method. It is the only alignment program that allows one to control the sensitivity / specificity tradeoff. It is based on the ProbCons source code, but uses alignment metric accuracy and eliminates the consistency transformation.

The java visualisation tool of AMAP 2.2 is not yet packaged in Debian.

There are three methods to install amap-align on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install amap-align Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install amap-align using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install amap-align

Install amap-align Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install amap-align using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install amap-align

Install amap-align Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install amap-align using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install amap-align

How To Uninstall amap-align on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the amap-align package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove amap-align

Uninstall amap-align And Its Dependencies

To uninstall amap-align and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove amap-align

Remove amap-align Configurations and Data

To remove amap-align configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge amap-align

Remove amap-align configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove amap-align configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge amap-align
