How To Install ledmon on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ledmon on Kali Linux.
What is ledmon
ledmon is:
ledmon and ledctl are userspace tools designed to control storage enclosure LEDs. The user must have root privileges to use these tools.
These tools use the SGPIO and SES-2 protocols to monitor and control LEDs. They been verified to work with Intel(R) storage controllers (i.e. the Intel(R) AHCI controller) and have not been tested with storage controllers of other vendors (especially SAS/SCSI controllers).
For backplane enclosures attached to ISCI controllers, support is limited to Intel(R) Intelligent Backplanes.
There are three methods to install ledmon on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ledmon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ledmon using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ledmonInstall ledmon Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ledmon using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ledmonInstall ledmon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ledmon using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ledmonHow To Uninstall ledmon on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the ledmon package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ledmonUninstall ledmon And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ledmon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ledmonRemove ledmon Configurations and Data
To remove ledmon configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ledmonRemove ledmon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ledmon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ledmonDependencies
