How To Install lammps on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install lammps on Kali Linux. lammps is Molecular Dynamics Simulator

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install lammps on Kali Linux.

What is lammps

lammps is:

LAMMPS is a classical molecular dynamics code, and an acronym for Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator.

LAMMPS has potentials for soft materials (biomolecules, polymers) and solid-state materials (metals, semiconductors) and coarse-grained or mesoscopic systems. It can be used to model atoms or, more generically, as a parallel particle simulator at the atomic, meso, or continuum scale.

LAMMPS runs on single processors or in parallel using message-passing techniques and a spatial-decomposition of the simulation domain. The code is designed to be easy to modify or extend with new functionality.

There are three methods to install lammps on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install lammps Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install lammps using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install lammps

Install lammps Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install lammps using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install lammps

Install lammps Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install lammps using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install lammps

How To Uninstall lammps on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the lammps package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove lammps

Uninstall lammps And Its Dependencies

To uninstall lammps and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove lammps

Remove lammps Configurations and Data

To remove lammps configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge lammps

Remove lammps configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove lammps configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge lammps

Dependencies

lammps have the following dependencies:
