How To Install jwm on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install jwm
on Kali Linux.
What is jwm
jwm is:
Low resource Window manager ideal for older PCs. It uses a minimum of external libraries, thus very little memory, includes virtual screens, menubar and root-menu popup.
JWM is a window manager for the X11 Window System. JWM is written in C and uses only Xlib and (optionally) the shape extension and libXpm. It can support some MWM, GNOME, and WM Spec hints. The menu configuration files are managed in XML format.
Compared to other light WM, like FVWM or Openbox, the Jwm consumes considerably less memory while providing the same functionality.
There are three methods to install jwm
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install jwm Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install jwm
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install jwm
Install jwm Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install jwm
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install jwm
Install jwm Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install jwm
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install jwm
How To Uninstall jwm on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the jwm
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove jwm
Uninstall jwm And Its Dependencies
To uninstall jwm
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove jwm
Remove jwm Configurations and Data
To remove jwm
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge jwm
Remove jwm configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove jwm
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge jwm
