How To Install guncat on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install guncat on Kali Linux.

What is guncat

guncat is:

Guncat acts like unix’s cat command, but handles (partially) encrypted sections of processed files. Sections of guncat’s input files which are surrounded by —–BEGIN PGP MESSAGE—– and —–END PGP MESSAGE—– markers are decrypted before being concatenated to the standard output stream.

Guncat’s output (i.e., the standard output stream) may subsequently be processed by other programs, like grep or less. Guncat supports reading a decryption passphrase either from stdin or from gpg-agent.

Guncat stands for (Gpg UNencrypting CAT) and was designed to facilitate searching through (partially) PGP encrypted files, as encountered in mailboxes, for example.

There are three methods to install guncat on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install guncat Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install guncat using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install guncat

Install guncat Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install guncat using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install guncat

Install guncat Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install guncat using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install guncat

How To Uninstall guncat on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the guncat package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove guncat

Uninstall guncat And Its Dependencies

To uninstall guncat and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove guncat

Remove guncat Configurations and Data

To remove guncat configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge guncat

Remove guncat configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove guncat configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge guncat
