In this tutorial we learn how to install grabc on Kali Linux.

What is grabc

grabc is:

grabc is simple but useful program to determine the color string in hex or in RGB components by clicking on a pixel on the screen. When this program is run, the mouse pointer is grabbed and changed to a cross hair and when the mouse is clicked, the color of the clicked pixel is written to stdout in hex and the R, G, B components are written to stderr.

This program can be useful when you see a color and want to use the color in xterm or your window manager’s border but no clue what the name of the color is. It’s silly to use a image processing software to find it out.

There are three methods to install grabc on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install grabc Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install grabc using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install grabc

Install grabc Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install grabc using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install grabc

Install grabc Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install grabc using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install grabc

How To Uninstall grabc on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the grabc package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove grabc

To uninstall grabc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove grabc

Remove grabc Configurations and Data

To remove grabc configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge grabc
