How To Install gimp on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gimp on Kali Linux.
What is gimp
gimp is:
GIMP is an advanced picture editor. You can use it to edit, enhance, and retouch photos and scans, create drawings, and make your own images. It has a large collection of professional-level editing tools and filters, similar to the ones you might find in Photoshop. Numerous fine-control settings and features like layers, paths, masks, and scripting give you total control over your images.
Many image file formats are supported, including JPEG, Photoshop (.psd), and Paint Shop Pro (.psp) files. It can also be used to scan and print photos.
To open files remotely (like over HTTP), install the gvfs-backends package.
To use a MIDI device (like a musical keyboard) as an input controller in GIMP, install libasound2 and read the how-to at /usr/share/doc/gimp/README.MIDI
There are three methods to install gimp on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gimp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gimp using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gimpInstall gimp Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gimp using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gimpInstall gimp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gimp using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gimpHow To Uninstall gimp on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the gimp package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gimpUninstall gimp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gimp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gimpRemove gimp Configurations and Data
To remove gimp configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gimpRemove gimp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gimp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gimpDependencies
