How To Install flent on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install flent on Kali Linux.

What is flent

flent is:

The FLExible Network Tester: Python wrapper to run multiple simultaneous netperf/iperf/ping instances and aggregate the results.

Tests are specified as config files (which are really Python), and various parsers for tool output are supplied. At the moment, parsers for netperf in -D mode, iperf in csv mode and ping/ping6 in -D mode are supplied, as well as a generic parser for commands that just outputs a single number.

Several commands can be run in parallel and, provided they output timestamped values, (which netperf ping and iperf do, the latter with a small patch, available in the misc/ directory), the test data points can be aligned with each other in time, interpolating differences between the actual measurement points. This makes it possible to graph (e.g.) ping times before, during and after a link is loaded.

There are three methods to install flent on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install flent Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install flent using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install flent

Install flent Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install flent using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install flent

Install flent Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install flent using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install flent

How To Uninstall flent on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the flent package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove flent

Uninstall flent And Its Dependencies

To uninstall flent and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove flent

Remove flent Configurations and Data

To remove flent configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge flent

Remove flent configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove flent configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge flent
