In this tutorial we learn how to install etcd-server on Kali Linux.

What is etcd-server

etcd-server is:

A highly-available key value store for shared configuration and service discovery. etcd is inspired by zookeeper and doozer, with a focus on:

  • Simple: curl’able user facing API (HTTP+JSON)
  • Secure: optional SSL client cert authentication
  • Fast: benchmarked 1000s of writes/s per instance
  • Reliable: Properly distributed using Raft

Etcd uses the Raft consensus algorithm to manage a highly-available replicated log.

This package contains the server binaries.

There are three methods to install etcd-server on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install etcd-server Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install etcd-server using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install etcd-server

Install etcd-server Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install etcd-server using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install etcd-server

Install etcd-server Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install etcd-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install etcd-server

How To Uninstall etcd-server on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the etcd-server package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove etcd-server

Uninstall etcd-server And Its Dependencies

To uninstall etcd-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove etcd-server

Remove etcd-server Configurations and Data

To remove etcd-server configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge etcd-server

Remove etcd-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove etcd-server configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge etcd-server
