How To Install e2tools on Kali Linux

What is e2tools

e2tools is:

E2tools is a simple set of utilities to read, write, and manipulate files in an ext2/ext3 filesystem.

The purpose of these utilities is manipulating ext2/ext3 filesystems from userspace without the need for mounting them, so that they can be used directly by normal users.

Included utilities are e2cp, e2mv, e2rm, e2mkdir, e2ln, e2ls and e2tail.

There are three methods to install e2tools on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install e2tools Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install e2tools using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install e2tools

Install e2tools Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install e2tools using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install e2tools

Install e2tools Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install e2tools using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install e2tools

To uninstall only the e2tools package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove e2tools

To uninstall e2tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove e2tools

Remove e2tools Configurations and Data

To remove e2tools configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge e2tools
