What is dovecot-core

dovecot-core is:

Dovecot is a mail server whose major goals are security and extreme reliability. It tries very hard to handle all error conditions and verify that all data is valid, making it nearly impossible to crash. It supports mbox/Maildir and its own dbox/mdbox formats, and should also be pretty fast, extensible, and portable.

This package contains the Dovecot main server and its command line utility.

There are three methods to install dovecot-core on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dovecot-core Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dovecot-core using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install dovecot-core

Install dovecot-core Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install dovecot-core using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install dovecot-core

Install dovecot-core Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install dovecot-core using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install dovecot-core

How To Uninstall dovecot-core on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the dovecot-core package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove dovecot-core

Uninstall dovecot-core And Its Dependencies

To uninstall dovecot-core and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove dovecot-core

Remove dovecot-core Configurations and Data

To remove dovecot-core configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge dovecot-core
