What is cpuidtool

cpuidtool is:

libcpuid is a small C library for x86 CPU detection and feature extraction. Using it, you can:

- get the processor vendor, model, brand string, code name,
- get information about CPU features such as: number of cores or logical
  CPUs, cache sizes, CPU clock,
- check if the processor implements a specific instruction set such as
  the SSE2, 3DNow!,
- execute the CPUID and RDTSC instructions (portably!)

This package ships the cpuidtool.

There are three methods to install cpuidtool on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install cpuidtool Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install cpuidtool using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install cpuidtool

Install cpuidtool Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install cpuidtool using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install cpuidtool

Install cpuidtool Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install cpuidtool using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install cpuidtool

sudo apt-get remove cpuidtool

sudo apt-get -y autoremove cpuidtool

To remove cpuidtool configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge cpuidtool
