What is zsh

zsh is:

Zsh is a UNIX command interpreter (shell) usable as an interactive login shell and as a shell script command processor. Of the standard shells, zsh most closely resembles ksh but includes many enhancements. Zsh has command-line editing, built-in spelling correction, programmable command completion, shell functions (with autoloading), a history mechanism, and a host of other features.

There are three methods to install zsh on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install zsh Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install zsh using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install zsh

Install zsh Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install zsh using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install zsh

Install zsh Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install zsh using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install zsh

How To Uninstall zsh on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the zsh package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove zsh

Uninstall zsh And Its Dependencies

To uninstall zsh and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove zsh

Remove zsh Configurations and Data

To remove zsh configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge zsh

Remove zsh configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove zsh configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge zsh
