How To Install zram-tools on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install zram-tools on Kali Linux.
What is zram-tools
zram-tools is:
zram is a Linux kernel module that allows you to set up compressed filesystems in RAM.
zram-tools uses this module to set up compressed swap space. This is useful on systems with low memory or servers running a large amount of services with data that’s easily swappable but that you may wish to swap back fast without sacrificing disk bandwidth.
By default it allocates 100MB of RAM, you can configure this in /etc/default/zramswap.
There are three methods to install zram-tools on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zram-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install zram-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zram-toolsInstall zram-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install zram-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install zram-toolsInstall zram-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install zram-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install zram-toolsHow To Uninstall zram-tools on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the zram-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zram-toolsUninstall zram-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall zram-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zram-toolsRemove zram-tools Configurations and Data
To remove zram-tools configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zram-toolsRemove zram-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove zram-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
