How To Install zftp on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install zftp on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is zftp
zftp is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
ZFTP is a macro-extensible file transfer program which supports the transfer of formatted, unformatted and ZEBRA RZ files (CMZ, HBOOK, etc.). It provides a common interface on all systems and avoids the problems of file format conversion that occur when transferring CERNLIB files between different architectures.
Except for the special treatment of CERNLIB files and use of a different port, zftp is very similar to an FTP client. Unless you are already familiar with this program, it will almost certainly be useless to you.
There are three methods to install zftp on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zftp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install zftp using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zftp
Install zftp Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install zftp using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install zftp
Install zftp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install zftp using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install zftp
How To Uninstall zftp on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the zftp package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zftp
Uninstall zftp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall zftp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zftp
Remove zftp Configurations and Data
To remove zftp configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zftp
Remove zftp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove zftp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge zftp
