How To Install zalign on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install zalign on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is zalign
zalign is:
zAlign is a local sequence aligner, especially intended for use with large biological DNA sequences, with more than 1Mbp (Millions of base pairs). It uses the Smith-Waterman exact algorithm with affine gap cost function to perform this task.
zAlign can be used both in distributed (clusters, for example) or standalone environments. Currently it has been tested on Linux and Sun Solaris, using both the MPICH (http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpi/mpich1/) and OpenMPI (http://www.open-mpi.org/) implementations. Ports for other Unix-like environments are highly considered.
There are three methods to install zalign on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zalign Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install zalign using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zalign
Install zalign Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install zalign using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install zalign
Install zalign Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install zalign using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install zalign
How To Uninstall zalign on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the zalign package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zalign
Uninstall zalign And Its Dependencies
To uninstall zalign and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zalign
Remove zalign Configurations and Data
To remove zalign configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zalign
Remove zalign configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove zalign configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge zalign
