How To Install zabbix-agent on Debian 11

In this tutorial we learn how to install zabbix-agent
on Debian 11.
What is zabbix-agent
zabbix-agent is:
Zabbix is a server/client network monitoring system with many features. It can be used for:
- high level monitoring of IT services;
- centralized monitoring of your servers and applications;
- monitoring of SNMP-enabled devices;
- performance monitoring (process load, network activity, disk activity, memory usage, OS parameters etc.);
- data visualization.
This package provides the software needed to monitor a host using a Zabbix agent.
There are three methods to install zabbix-agent
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install zabbix-agent Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install zabbix-agent
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install zabbix-agent
Install zabbix-agent Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install zabbix-agent
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install zabbix-agent
Install zabbix-agent Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install zabbix-agent
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install zabbix-agent
How To Uninstall zabbix-agent on Debian 11
To uninstall only the zabbix-agent
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove zabbix-agent
Uninstall zabbix-agent And Its Dependencies
To uninstall zabbix-agent
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove zabbix-agent
Remove zabbix-agent Configurations and Data
To remove zabbix-agent
configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge zabbix-agent
Remove zabbix-agent configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove zabbix-agent
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge zabbix-agent
