What is yubikey-manager

yubikey-manager is:

YubiKey Manager (ykman) is a command line tool for configuring a YubiKey over all transports. It is capable of reading out device information as well as configuring several aspects of a YubiKey, including enabling or disabling connection transports an programming various types of credentials.

YubiKey is a specific series of personal Hardware Security Modules, meant to protect private keys tied to its users (for 2nd factor authentication, use with OpenPGP, …).

There are three methods to install yubikey-manager on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install yubikey-manager Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install yubikey-manager using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install yubikey-manager

Install yubikey-manager Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install yubikey-manager using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install yubikey-manager

Install yubikey-manager Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install yubikey-manager using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install yubikey-manager

How To Uninstall yubikey-manager on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the yubikey-manager package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove yubikey-manager

Uninstall yubikey-manager And Its Dependencies

To uninstall yubikey-manager and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove yubikey-manager

Remove yubikey-manager Configurations and Data

To remove yubikey-manager configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge yubikey-manager

Remove yubikey-manager configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove yubikey-manager configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge yubikey-manager
