What is yt-dlp
yt-dlp is:
yt-dlp is a youtube-dl fork based on the now inactive youtube-dlc. The main focus of this project is adding new features and patches while also keeping up to date with the original project.
yt-dlp is a small command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com and other sites that don’t provide direct links to the videos served.
yt-dlp allows the user, among other things, to choose a specific video quality to download (if available) or let the program automatically determine the best (or worst) quality video to grab. It supports downloading entire playlists and all videos from a given user.

There are three methods to install yt-dlp on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install yt-dlp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install yt-dlp using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install yt-dlp
How To Uninstall yt-dlp on Debian 12
To uninstall only the yt-dlp package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove yt-dlp
Uninstall yt-dlp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall yt-dlp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove yt-dlp
