How To Install yap on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install yap
on Debian 9.
What is yap
yap is:
High-performance Prolog compiler developed at LIACC/Universidade do Porto and at COPPE Sistemas/UFRJ. The YAP Prolog engine is based in the Warren Abstract Machine, with several optimizations for better performance. YAP follows the Edinburgh tradition, and is largely compatible with the ISO-Prolog standard and with Quintus and SICStus Prolog.
YAP features a constraint solver over real numbers, and support for constraint handling rules (CHR).
There are three methods to install yap
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install yap Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install yap
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install yap

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install yap
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install yap
Install yap Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install yap
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install yap
How To Uninstall yap on Debian 9
To uninstall only the yap
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove yap
Uninstall yap And Its Dependencies
To uninstall yap
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove yap
Remove yap Configurations and Data
To remove yap
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge yap
