How To Install xxkb on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xxkb
on Debian 11.
What is xxkb
xxkb is:
This program is a keyboard state indicator and switcher for xkb. Features:
- shows current xkb group (pixmap in its own window)
- allows switch group by mouse click
- allows individual state for every window
- can install its own button (indicator/mouse switcher) on every window’s title bar
- can restrict keyboard states for every window to only two (“main group” - “alternative group”) if xkb set up for more than two groups. Bugs:
- documentation is partially in Russian (koi8-r charset) only
There are three methods to install xxkb
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xxkb Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xxkb
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xxkb

After updating apt database, We can install xxkb
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xxkb
Install xxkb Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install xxkb

How To Uninstall xxkb on Debian 11
To uninstall only the xxkb
package we can use the following command:
