How To Install xxdiff on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install xxdiff on Kali Linux.
What is xxdiff
xxdiff is:
xxdiff is a powerful tool for viewing the differences between two or three files, or two directories, and can be used to produce a merged version. The texts of the two or three files are presented side by side with their differences highlighted with colors for easy identification. Among its features are:
- Compares two or three files, or two directories (shallow and recursive)
- Horizontal highlighting of diffs
- Interactive merges, previewing and saving of the resulting output
- Unmerges CVS conflicts and displays two files, to help resolve conflicts
- Fully customizable with a resource file
- Features and output that ease integration with scripts
There are three methods to install xxdiff on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xxdiff Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xxdiff using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xxdiffInstall xxdiff Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xxdiff using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xxdiffInstall xxdiff Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install xxdiff using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xxdiffHow To Uninstall xxdiff on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the xxdiff package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xxdiffUninstall xxdiff And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xxdiff and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xxdiffRemove xxdiff Configurations and Data
To remove xxdiff configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xxdiffRemove xxdiff configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xxdiff configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xxdiffDependencies
