What is xwrited

xwrited is:

The xwrited utility displays write(1) and wall(1) messages as desktop notifications. A notification daemon compliant to the freedesktop.org Desktop Notification Specification draft needs to be running in order to display the notifications.

This utility is useful e.g. to send (forward) broadcast (wall) messages to all users from cronjobs or system daemons.

The xwrited daemon is automatically started for each new X session after the installation of this package.

There are three methods to install xwrited on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xwrited Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xwrited using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xwrited

Install xwrited Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xwrited using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xwrited

Install xwrited Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xwrited using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xwrited

How To Uninstall xwrited on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the xwrited package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xwrited

Uninstall xwrited And Its Dependencies

To uninstall xwrited and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xwrited

Remove xwrited Configurations and Data

To remove xwrited configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xwrited
