How To Install xwatch on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install xwatch
on Kali Linux.
What is xwatch
xwatch is:
The displayed logs are colour-coded according to severity. Basically, you get to see what’s going on during say a break-in, instead of having to check the logfiles after the damage is done. Of course, you need to have the syslog daemons configured right, so that the logfiles are created. Xwatch reads options from its commandline as well as from a app-defaults resource file.
There are three methods to install xwatch
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xwatch Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xwatch
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xwatch

Install xwatch Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xwatch
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xwatch
How To Uninstall xwatch on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the xwatch
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xwatch
Uninstall xwatch And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xwatch
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xwatch
Remove xwatch Configurations and Data
To remove xwatch
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xwatch
