How To Install xrootd-server on Debian 12

on Debian 12.
What is xrootd-server
xrootd-server is:
The Extended root file server consists of a file server called xrootd and a cluster management server called cmsd.
The xrootd server was developed for the root analysis framework to serve root files. However, the server is agnostic to file types and provides POSIX-like access to any type of file.
The cmsd server is the next generation version of the olbd server, originally developed to cluster and load balance Objectivity/DB AMS database servers. It provides enhanced capability along with lower latency and increased throughput.
There are three methods to install xrootd-server
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install xrootd-server Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install xrootd-server
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install xrootd-server
Install xrootd-server Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install xrootd-server
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install xrootd-server
Install xrootd-server Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install xrootd-server
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install xrootd-server
How To Uninstall xrootd-server on Debian 12
To uninstall only the xrootd-server
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove xrootd-server
Uninstall xrootd-server And Its Dependencies
To uninstall xrootd-server
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove xrootd-server
Remove xrootd-server Configurations and Data
To remove xrootd-server
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge xrootd-server
Remove xrootd-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove xrootd-server
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge xrootd-server
